We foster Problem solvers and Discoverers
We provide a sequence of courses designed to integrate science skills and processes with the use of mathematics and technology to better understand the impact of scientific research on our world and our lives.
There are widening achievement and opportunity gaps among students in our K12 education system. In particular, data for underrepresented minority and economically disadvantaged students shows they face unique challenges and often struggle to overcome these obstacles in secondary school and beyond. Many students find themselves overwhelmed by contending with the rigor of STEM courses like Algebra 1 while also working to overcome achievement gaps and pandemic-related learning setbacks
9th Grade
Students are introduced to a variety of the tools used in scientific research, including data collection equipment such as Vernier probes, software for data analysis such as Microsoft Excel and Wolfram Mathematica, and the specific expectations for keeping a legally valid scientific notebook.
10th Grade
Students develop higher order thinking and presenting skills from many digital and hands-on projects. Students will be exposed to Autodesk’s Fusion 360, Microsoft Excel VBA, Mathematica, Inkscape 2D design software, and Autodesk Eagle PCB designer.
11th Grade
Students complete a series of four projects, one per quarter of the year. These projects are designed to guide students through the research design, data collection, and the research presentation process..
12th Grade
Each student conducts a capstone research project under the mentorship of a professional, scientists, mathematician or engineer. The culmination of this 300+ hour real-worlds hands-on research project is our Gallery Walk of Capstone Projects.
We prepare students to realize their greatness.
Our academic program prepares students to become bold inquirers, problem solvers, and integrative thinkers. It challenges them to question, creatively probe, take risks, and test/support their ideas. Our talented faculty members provide challenging opportunities for students to think critically and creatively, explore and discover, and apply their knowledge to solve significant real-world problems.
We offer tutoring in Math, Language Arts/English, Chemistry and Physics. Our philosophy is based on the fundamental principle that to master Mathematics, a student has to have a full and complete grasp of the concept and feel confident before moving ahead.
TRANSFORMING LEARNING THROUGH ALGEBRA
Identified as a critical “gateway course,” Algebra disproportionately impacts marginalized student populations with drop-off and graduation rates that in turn limit higher education and professional opportunities. Our Curriculum is a standards-aligned, digital curriculum designed incorporating principles of learning science and multimedia design theory. Our Curriculum prioritizes not graded practice, exploratory activities, and opportunities for collaborative discourse to help students develop mathematical literacy and strengthen mathematical identity.
“I just wanted to take a moment and thank you for ALL of your communications throughout the summer and as this new school year gets under way. You have made the transition to the program for us as parents very easy.“
Janet Morris
“My wife and I couldn’t be happier with the outstanding education that our daughter is receiving. It’s all a result of the care and compassion that you and the other teachers have for her. Your consistent correspondence is pertinent, professional, and greatly appreciated. Thanks!”
Willie Brown
“The instructor has demonstrated an enthusiasm for knowledge, understanding and hard work that defy the ‘requirements’ of the program. I highly encourage using him as an example of ‘building a future and a career start’ through the SMA program. It is never too late to leave a strong favorable impression with future employers”

We destigmatize failure and enhance success
Student motivation in math & science is bolstered by the strength of their personal identity- when they feel like they get it, when they can see themselves as a mathematician, there is a greater desire to engage. Encouraging students to build their skills and knowledge over time, destigmatizing failure, and helping students see the practical value of what they are learning strengthens motivation and engagement in math classes. Conversely, frustration and feeling lost within the course breeds demotivation and an identity that a student is inherently bad at math. Through a unique curriculum with adequate resources and scaffolding, teachers can leverage pedagogically strategic lesson plans and activities within specific units to engage their unique students individually and efficiently.
